This past month has been packed with culinary creativity, new skills, and delicious dishes! Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been cooking up:
Week 1: Knife Skills & Kitchen Basics
We kicked off the month with essential knife techniques — dicing, julienning, and chopping like pros. Participants learned how to safely handle knives, maintain proper posture, and prep ingredients efficiently.
Week 2: World Cuisine – Italian and Indian Favourites
From handmade pasta to rich tomato sauces, this week was all about classic Italian comfort food. We made fresh fettuccine, perfected our marinara, and even tried our hands at tiramisu.
Week 3: Plant-Based Power
In our plant-based week, we focused on nutritious, meat-free meals that didn’t sacrifice flavour. Highlights included lentil and vegetable curry, roasted vegetables, and making nutritious side dishes using vegetables.
Week 4: Baking Basics
We closed the month with the sweet science of baking. From flaky scones, doughnuts, and pizzas to beginner-friendly cakes, participants discovered the joys of measuring, mixing, and the magic of yeast!
Bonus: A Trip to the Adelaide Central Market
We spent a day at the wonderful Adelaide Central Market, discovering where our food comes from, meeting suppliers and chatting to stallholders, sampling fresh produce, and completing a scavenger hunt that took us all around the market — finishing off with a delicious Asian-style feast!
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, we’ll be diving into autumn-style comfort foods, picnic-ready recipes, and advanced pastry techniques. Stay tuned for our May schedule!
