Week 7 Cooking Classs Highlights: From Market to Masterpiece
The 7th week of our KDS Cooking Classes was a vibrant journey from the bustling aisles of Drakes Newton Foodland to the lively kitchen at our facility. Under the guidance of Chef Michelle O’Hara and Sue Bishnoi, our Day Options Manager, our participants embarked on a culinary expedition to source fresh ingredients for their recipes, gaining invaluable insights into selecting the best produce and essentials.
A Learning Adventure in the Grocery Aisles
Our trip to the grocery store was more than just shopping; it was a lesson in nutrition, budgeting, and understanding the farm-to-table process. Each participant took part in choosing ingredients for the day’s recipes: a nutritious Chicken, Spinach & Potato Bake and a delectable Lemon and Raspberry Magic Cake. The hands-on experience helped reinforce the connection between fresh ingredients and healthy eating, a core component of our program’s educational goals.
A Special Guest in the Kitchen
Back at the kitchen, the excitement continued as Chef Leckie from St Martin’s Anglican Church joined us. His presence added a special layer of learning and enthusiasm to the session. Chef Leckie shared his professional tips and techniques, particularly in crafting the perfect bakes and desserts, which our participants eagerly absorbed. The interaction was not only educational but also a fantastic opportunity for our chefs to gain confidence under the tutelage of seasoned professionals.
The Joy of Cooking and Learning Together
As the dishes came together, so did the laughter and camaraderie among the participants. Cooking alongside professionals and learning firsthand from experts transformed the kitchen into a lively hub of activity and learning. The Chicken, Spinach & Potato Bake and Lemon and Raspberry Magic Cake turned out exceptionally well, much to the delight of everyone involved.
